Tremont Temple Baptist Church won the second round in its fight to sell its property at 860 Forsyth St. in downtown Macon.

MACON, Ga. (13WMAZ) -- An historic church in downtown Macon is closer to becoming a Dunkin' Donuts.

Tremont Temple Baptist Church won the second round in its fight to sell its property at 860 Forsyth St. in downtown Macon.

The church has been at odds with the Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission and Historic Macon Foundation because Tremont wants to sell the century old sanctuary to a developer who wants to tear it down to build a Dunkin' Donuts.

The commission denied the church's application for a demolition permit in December while trying to broker a deal where the church would sell the property to Historic Macon.

The church has not responded to Historic Macon's offer and they have appealed P&Z's denial of its demolition permit.

Monday, P&Z reversed its December vote, voting 3-2 to allow the church to demolish the building.
